AbstractEvidence-based medicine has been described as the “conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the healthcare of individual patients.” Many sources of information may be used by doctors when making decisions about initiating asthma therapy. These include: personal experience, postgraduate education, continuous professional development and publications in peer-reviewed journals. However, despite these sources of information, available data suggest that it is often difficult to practice evidence-based medicine, particularly in general practice. In the future, physicians will be provided with better evidence of the relative efficacy of treatment to aid changes in clinical practice. This ...
