The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of age on left ventricular performance during exercise in 79 patients with coronary artery disease (≥ 50% narrowing of one or more major coronary arteries). Fifty patients under the age of 60 years (group I) and 29 patients 60 years or older (group II) were studied. Radionuclide angiograms were obtained at rest and during symptomlimited upright bicycle exercise. The history of hypertension, angina or Q wave myocardial infarction was similar in both groups. Multivessel coronary artery disease was present in 30 patients (60%) in group I and in 19 patients (66%) in group II (p = not significant).There were no significant differences between the two groups in the hemodynamic variables (at rest ...
