AbstractEach year, the ultimate goal of emission legislation is to force technology to the point where a practically viable zero emission vehicle becomes a reality. Albeit the direction to reach this target is a formidable challenge, homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) is a new combustion concept to produce ultra low nitrogen oxides (NOx) and smoke emissions.
