AbstractThe problem of generating a matrix A with specified eigenvalues, which maps a given set of vectors of another given set, is presented. An existence theorem is given and proved. A stable algorithm for producing the matrix A is discussed. The relation between this problem and the pole assignment problem in control theory is investigated. The application of this problem in the design of neural networks is discussed
