Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a relatively common inherited cardiomyopathy that is occasionally challenging to differentiate from hypertensive heart disease and athlete hearts on the basis of morphologic or functional abnormalities alone. Echocardiography has traditionally played a preeminent role in the diagnosis, formulation of management strategies, and the prognostication of this complex disease.
