AbstractIt is assumed in the article that at a level of a structure of a mental lexicon the information about poltsemous words is presented not by a list of meanings but in other, more compact way. Probably in a mental lexicon there is a base, initial meaning of a poltsemous word, and its derivatives are constructed in accordance with certain rules which are stored there. Possibly, this basic meaning can be equal to a semantic core of a polysemous word (lexical eidos)
