Electrophysiologic study of the cortical collecting tubule of the rabbit. Previousin vitro microperfusion studies have shown that under various circumstances the transepithelial potential difference (PD) of the cortical collecting tubule may be oriented either lumen-negative or lumen-positive. The present study examines the origin of the lumen-positive PD in (1) collecting tubules obtained from rabbits on a high sodium chloride diet and (2) collecting tubules with originally lumen-negative PDs which were made positive by sodium substitution with choline or sodium transport inhibition with ouabain.
