In 2011, under the coordination of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) all European national radiological societies decided to celebrate the anniversary of Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen’s death who first discovered x-rays in 1895. The role of radiology as a diagnostic and interventional procedure in medicine is undeniable, but its perception among the general public and among colleagues performing in other clinical disciplines still needs to be clarified
