AbstractBackgroundReactive oxygen species (ROS) and free radicals are produced during normal physiologic events in a healthy organism. Under pathological conditions ROS are overproduced resulting oxidative stress. This leads to oxidative modifications of the cellular membranes or intracellular molecules.
