Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the mandible and submandibular salivary gland: report of a case

SummaryA case of the rare so-called malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) located to the left mandible and submandibular salivary gland in a 53-year-old woman is presented. Clinically showed a painful numbness tender swelling over the left mandible at the molar region. Submandibular node was enlarged mobile and palpable. Histologically, both mandible and submandibular gland revealed proliferation of spindly fibroblasts and mononuclear cells resemble histiocyte, arranged in short fascicles and loose stroiform patterns with large nucleus. Accordingly a diagnosis of MFH of stroiform- pleomorphic type was made. The patient underwent segmental mandibulectomy with complete resection of the cervical glands.
