Plasma concentrations of endothelin-1 and C-natriuretic peptide of pregnant women with gestational hypertension

Purpose — to evaluate the peculiarities of endothelial vasoregulation properties in pregnant women with gestational hypertension, by detecting the serum concentrations of endothelin-1and C-natriuretic peptide and their ratio. Materials and methods. Total 61 pregnant women were examined and subdivided into three groups. The first group comprised pregnant women with gestational hypertension (n=22), the second group included women with preeclampsia (n=20), and women with normal pregnancy belonged to group III, which was a control group (n=19). The method of enzyme-linked immunoassay by means of reagents of the company «Biomedica» (Germany) was applied to detect the concentration of endothelin-1 and C-natriuretic peptide in the serum of patients. Results. Serum levels of endothelin-1 and C-natriuretic peptide was significantly higher in women with gestational hypertension (29.1±2.84 pg/ml and 12.2±1.24 ng/ml, respectively) and in the second group of women with preeclampsia (38.1±2.82 pg/ml and 9.1±0.90 ng/ml, respectively) compared with the rates in the control group (15.86±2.10 pg /ml and 6.95±0.68 ng/ml, respectively). There was observed imbalance in the constructor/vasodilator system in patients with preeclampsia resulted in the higher endothelin-1 concentration in blood serum than the C-natriuretic peptide, which is evidenced by the results of their ratio.
