Although significant pressure gradients can be recorded across the left ventricular outflow tract in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, controversy exists regarding the presence or absence of true obstruction. Ten patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy were studied at the time of septal myectomy.
