AbstractBackground: Biologically compatible fluorescent protein probes, particularly the self-assembling green fluorescent protein (GFP) from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, have revolutionized research in cell, molecular and developmental biology because they allow visualization of biochemical events in living cells.
