Upon excitation of their localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) band, gold nanorods (AuNRs) show a characteristic light-to-heat transduction, a useful and versatile property for a range of biomedical applications such as photothermal therapy, drug delivery, optoacoustic imaging and biosensing, among others.
