The aim of this research is to reveal how the views and perceptions of society on “Mas Merah” folklore. Through the theory of literary reception with qualitative descriptive method. Literary receptions are studies of texts dotted to reader as a reactor or commentary on the literary text. The meaningful reader is a variable of space, time, and socio-cultural group. That means every literary work is not the same as reading, understanding, and valuing all the time or in any particular group of people. There were 14 informants who were asked to respond to “Mas Merah” folklore divided into three age groupings, which consisted of groups of young age, middle age group, and old age group.
