Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography helps to improve the diagnostic rate of periampullary duodenal diverticula. The importance of periampullary duodenal diverticula in clinical practice lies in its close association with bile duct stones, and different types of periampullary duodenal diverticula have different associations with the development and recurrence of bile duct stones.
