Background: This study was designed to verify the effectiveness of antimicrobial combination therapy against Acinetobacter baumannii isolates with different degrees of resistance to imipenem. Methods: A total of twenty-one isolates with imipenem MICs of 16 μg/ml (fifteen isolates) or 64 μg/ml (six isolates), as identified using the Vitek II system, were included in this study. The MICs of all the isolates to each drug were confirmed again using the broth microdilution method, and a checkerboard assay was used for the assessment of the in vitro effectiveness of various antibiotic combinations.
