The search on copper coordination compounds as anticancer agents has boosted dramatically in the last few years. Although phosphine copper complexes appear to be a very promising class of metallodrugs alternative to platinum drugs, few data on their mechanism of action have been reported so far. In this chapter advances in the development of phosphine copper(I) complexes as anticancer agents are collected: In particular, recent findings on the identification of the main molecular targets and cellular pathways involved in copper complexes-induced antiproliferative effects as well as the results gained by in vivo studies are described
