The Code of Ethics is a set of principles of professional conduct which establishes the requirements and expectations for dentists in fulfilling duties to their patients. In dentistry, ethical issues are present in every decision and unethical conduct seriously compromises the service to patients. Many dental organizations have published codes of ethical conduct to guide member dentists in their practice. In this article, the authors describe the most important principles of ethics, like: beneficence and non-maleficence, patient confidentiality, autonomy and consent, dental treatment for violent and HIV infected patients.
