Abstract Background Chronic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection has been commonly linked to the development of autoimmunity, in part through activation of B cells. B cells are also postulated to play a pathogenic role in the autoimmune liver disease Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC).
