A eficácia das estratégias de coping após um evento traumático: uma revisão sistemática

Resilience after exposure to a traumatic event is related to the efficiency of coping strategies. Nevertheless, it is not clear what reveals itself as efficient after exposure to trauma. With this review analysis the aim was to understand, in face of psychological results, what specific coping strategies emerge as efficient for subsequent psychological adjustment. The review focused on electronic databases (Medline, PsycINFO, Scopus e Google Scholar) for studies, published in English between 2000 and 2012, that evaluated coping strategies and psychological results in adults that were victims of a traumatic event two years prior to evaluation. Of the 60 publications initially found, only five were included in this review analysis. No studies were found accounting for an association between social coping and psychological adjustment. There are some controversies about avoidance strategies being more harmful that the verbalization of negative feelings, suggesting there is a need to reflect about the benefits of encouraging victims to express feelings and thoughts after a traumatic event
