After a protracted conflict, societies have to cope with the need of promoting reconciliation and peace consolidation, in order to prevent the resurgence of violence. Several mechanisms have been developed to address human rights’ violations, which go far beyond the national judicial systems: specific international courts; truth and reconciliation commissions; programmes for reparation of victims and reintegration of ex-combatants and war crimes perpetrators; traditional and local mechanisms of conflict resolution.
