Research into the Inquisition in the district of Valencia (Spain) was mainly based on the analysis carried out by historian Ricardo García Cárcel in 1976. The new record that we have found, which includes 3094 convicts most of whom were New Christians (93.39%), served as a basis to outline repression in this region. The Inquisition along with the King’s financial crises and religious and cultural standardisation, shook up the New Christian community which had increasingly become part of the Old Christian society to which it had belonged since its conversion.
