Témoins et réseaux dans les premiers procès contre les « judaïsants » de Valence

Research into the Inquisition in the district of Valencia (Spain) was mainly based on the analysis carried out by historian Ricardo García Cárcel in 1976. The new record that we have found, which includes 3094 convicts most of whom were New Christians (93.39%), served as a basis to outline repression in this region. The Inquisition along with the King’s financial crises and religious and cultural standardisation, shook up the New Christian community which had increasingly become part of the Old Christian society to which it had belonged since its conversion. The second stage now involves paying close attention to the declarations of the prosecution and defence witnesses. Through their declarations before the judges, voluntarily or under pressure, we hope to eventually understand the links that existed in that first period of repression between the New Christians and the people closest to them: family, neighbours, servants and colleagues
