Le programme canadien des travailleurs agricoles saisonniers et le système régional de migration au Yucatán : où sont les femmes?

This article focuses on migration that takes place under a bilateral agreement between Canada and Mexico, the Seasonal agricultural workers program (SAWP). Opened to Mexican men and women, the program does recruit only a tiny proportion of women assigning them to specific tasks while closely monitoring their behavior. Based on the concept of regional system of migration as well as on ethnographic data collected in 2012 in Yucatán, the author describes the integration of women in the different types of migration in that Mexican State that is characterized by a high percentage of maya population, and shows that the unequal social relations, such as gender, are consolidated in the context of this program. The overall structure of the program, the type of insertion of individuals in this migration and social representations both at the point of origin and that of destination are at work to keep women in a state of subordination, whether as workers recruited in the SAWP or as spouses of workers in the program
