Le tournant design des humanités numériques

Based on a case study of the VÉgA project (Vocabulary of Ancient Egyptian) and on the finding that there is a double convergence of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS) and of Digital Humanities (DH) towards Design, this paper assumes that Design is an epistemological intermediary between CIS and DH. The paper focuses on how design, as a research object of CIS, can enlighten new ways of structuring theoretical and methodological issues in digital humanities. From a brief genealogical study of the rise of a design concern in DH, the paper proposes to define a new research area called "Design & Digital Humanities" (2DH), which aims at considering DH in terms of users rather than of tools. The goal is to focus less on setting data (datafication) through computerized logic and focus more on setting experiences through human-centered digital design
