The rise of social media in recent years has given rise to new professional uses of ICT-related information flow. These uses are involved in the reconfiguration of professionnal identity in many professional field, including communication. This identity reconfiguration led to an interest in a new issue, between information and communication science and sociology of professional group in France, that of building a digital professional identity. The analysis proposed in this paper helps clarify what we mean by professional uses of social media. It then highlights the challenges of building a digital professional identity.
