Patient safety with mental disorder: developing management technologies for risk management

Abstract Objective: To describe the development of management technologies for risk management in the safety of patients with mental disorders. Method: A research study, conducted in 17 seminars with 13 members of the multiprofessional team from a reference hospital in mental health in a state in the southeastern region of Brazil. Results: Two management technologies were developed and validated: Risk management diagram and protocols, both focusing on the safety of patients with mental disorders. Conclusions and implications for practice: The safety protocol of the patient with a mental disorder and the diagram in a tree of risk management were two management technologies constructed in this study. Both can offer the nurse and multidisciplinary team a baseline to qualified care, grounded in patient safety principles
