The Frequency of Gonococcal, Chlamydial, Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma Infections in Patients with Urethral Discharge

The frequency of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma hominis was investigated in patients admitted to Etlik Policlinics of SSK Ankara Education Hospital with urethral discharge between June 2001-December 2001. Hundred patients with urethral exudate with 5 or more than 5 white blood cells in high field resolution in direct microscopic examination were included in the study. U. urealyticum, N. gonorrhoeae, C. trachomatis and M. hominis were the isolated agents and they were isolated from 45, 23, 21 and 7 patients respectively. In some patients there were more than one isolate and they were as follows: N. gonorrhoeae and U. urealyticum from 6, M. hominis and U. urealyticum from 6, C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae from 5, C. trachomatis and U. urealyticum from 4 patients and N. gonorrhoeae, C. trachomatis and U. urealyticum from one and N. gonorrhoeae, C. trachomatis and M. hominis from one patient. The most frequently isolated agent was U. urealyticum. The most frequent agents isolated together were N. gonorrhoeae-U. urealyticum and M. hominis-U. urealyticum
