The time of the distribution, reception and translation of Proust’s work in Brazil coincides with the birth of the Brazilian publishing industry. After the First World War and as an extension of the 1920 Modernist movement, many publishing houses financed by Brazilian capital emerged. For some of them, translation became a speciality. This article tries to observe the rise of Brazilian publishing houses, particularly as far as the translation activities are concerned, in relation to Proust’s work circulation around the country
