Different disturbances of thyroid hormones in the absence of concurrent thyroid disease have been reported in patients on maintenance hemodialysis. After a successful kidney transplant, thyroid hormone metabolism normalizes. Although increased frequency of goiter and thyroid adenomas have been observed, hyperthyroidism is very rare.
