The author brings together and discusses the work of the historical international thinkers of peace and resistance against violence, but he makes also a general reflection about his own practical experience in the prevention of violent conflict in Italy and other countries. The theoretical position of L’Abate is clear: violence is not a form of conflict and we have to consider together both agency and structural reasons of violence if we want to avoid it. However the struggle against violence is not just a pragmatic of action but also a moral principle. Hence, according to L’Abate, we can not renounce to a positive reference to justice
