Patients have reported that nausea and vomiting are their first concern when receiving chemotherapy. The consequences of inadequately controlled nausea and vomiting range from minor discomfort to dose-limiting toxicity. Nurses have a key role to play in helping patients and families manage the distress associated with treatment side effects. Astute assessment, collaborative planning and developing a partnership with the patient are key aspects of the nurse's role. The relationship the nurse develops with the patient is the avenue for understanding the patient's perspective and ensuring treatment goals are mutually agreeable
