This article proposes a diachronic approach to Ishiguro’s novels aiming at inscribing his last novel in a reflexion on the nature of reality. Thus, the shift from real to imaginary reality will first be tackled with an emphasis on mythical and structural frames. The notions of self and self-representation will then be broached as becoming obsessive motifs recurring through markers of vision and narration. The last part will suggest that Never Let Me Go veers off from the author’s earlier novels as retrospection is replaced by projection and individual introspection by collective ethics
