To the Jubilee of Professor Igor Olegovich Tyumentsev

The paper is devoted to the 60th jubilee of the famous Russian historian, leading expert in the history of Russia of the Time of Troubles of the beginning of the 17th century, Igor Olegovich Tyumentsev. We present a short biographical sketch reflecting the main moments of I.O. Tyumentsev’s career as a researcher and as a leader who is currently holding the post of director of the Volgograd Institute of Management – Branch of Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. The paper highlights the main scientific achievements in the history of Russia of the beginning of the 17th century: the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations, the publication of monographs, collections of documents from the Time of Troubles. We’ve shown the results of work done in the post of chairman of the Volgograd regional society of local lore – the management of large projects on the history of the Lower Volga Region (Tsaritsyn, Stalingrad, Volgograd), the history of the Volga and the Don Cossacks. Having interest in the history of his small Motherland, I. O. Tyumentsev published several books and articles on the history and current state of the Kuban and the Western Caucasus, in particular, about the villages of Khadyzhenskaya, Neftyanaya, Kura, the city of Nizhny Novgorod and other areas. At the same time, we’ve outlined I. O. Tyumentsev’s contribution as an administrator in the development of the Volgograd State University. He gave a lot of energy to the process of establishing a new educational institution, where he made his way from the assistant of the department to the dean, vice-rector and professor. I. O. Tyumentsev contributed to the development of the historical faculty and the Dissertation Board. 3 doctoral and 11 candidate dissertations were defended under the guidance of I. O. Tyumentsev. Besides, he established his own scientific school
