In this prospective study we aimed to evaluate the rate of the isolated organisms in febrile episodes of the patients with neutropenia (<1000 mm3) due to hematologic disorders or chemotherapy. Through November 1995, to February 1998, ninety-eight febrile episodes were observed in total of 44 patients (10 female and 34 male) with ANLL (n: 29), ALL (n: 9), severe aplastic anemia (n: 4), multiple myeloma (n:1) and NHL (n:1). Subclavian catheter was used in 66 (67.35%) out of 98 febrile episodes. The causative agent wasn’t isolated in 45.92% (45/98) of febrile episodes. The rate of isolation of gram positive microorganisms was 69.13%. Coagulase negative staphylococci ( 53.57%) and Staphylococcus aureus (39.28%) were the most frequently isolated...
