The Colombian state in the internal armed conflict: between unresolved modernity and the challenges of postagreement and globalisation

This paper outlines the challenges faced by the Colombian state considering three variables that directly affect the evolution of the internal conflict in Colombia: first, the left’s ideological crisis in the post cold war period; second, the polemic distinction of current subversive groups between “rebels” or “criminals”, proposed by authors like Paul Collier; and third, the challenges that lie ahead for the Colombian state in the postagreement with the Farc guerrilla: i) the deepening of the social contract, ii) the redefinition of state as a political actor that assumes transborder cooperation strategies with regard to the post-agreement and iii) the opening up of the political system and the deepening of democracy
