The severity of biological effects following irradiation depends on the stage at which embryos are irradiated during embryogenesis. We reported previously that irradiation of medaka embryos 3 days post fertilization (dpf) with 10 Gy of gamma rays induced high incidence of apoptotic cells in the mid-brain, however, the embryos hatched normally and developed without apparent malformations.
