Travelling Demoiselles’ Emotions : travel in girls’ diaries in the nineteenth century The collection of nineteenth century’s girls’ private diaries studied by Philippe Lejeune (Le moi des demoiselles : enquête sur le journal de jeune fille, 1993) reveals the way travel interrupted the often dull routine of young bourgeois and aristocratic girls.
