Mundial, trasnacional, global: Un ejercicio de clarificación conceptual de los estudios globales

The purpose of this essay is twofold. On the one hand, it presents the results of a brief survey on the field of the so-called “global studies” aimed at providing a basic typology that allows distinguishing among the different “branches” of this new historiographical genre. Among them are globalization studies, transnational topics and global history. Neither the search nor the classification are exhaustive and their purpose is rather to minimally clarify the field of global studies in order to minimize the confusion created by the indistinct use of these terms in the current literature. On the other hand, the paper identifies one of the origins of global history studies in one of the most fruitful traditions in 20th century’s historiography, initiated by Fernand Braudel and Immanuel Wallerstein
