La fabrique d’une communauté transnationale au prisme des réseaux sociaux

In the field of migration studies, social networks represent a keystone in the analysis of transnational dynamics, which are processes bridging spaces of origin and destination over distance and time. This research deals with the building of social networks over a period of 30 years, in a group initially formed by 72 Jumma children, who were placed in French families in 1987, after their exfiltration from refugee camps in India where they had been exiled due to the civil war in Bangladesh. In their country, Jummas suffered centuries of oppression. The article combines a micro-scale analysis of individual trajectories, observed in the evolution of a few personal networks over a 25-year period, in order to understand the logics of belonging between here and there; and a meso-scale analysis of the social networks’ extensions that over time build a transnational community. By spatializing these networks, the paper analyzes how temporality and space question the role played by distance and connection in the territorial dynamics of belonging
