Based on a survey of female hospital nurses working in two medical units, we first show how their temporal competences make them appear like “jugglers”. We next show how those competences are socially constructed, by a socialization bound both by their gender and type of work as well as by the diverse ways each personally adjusts to her schedule and hopes for a better one as her career unfolds. It must be said that such competences are still not readily visible or acknowledged
