This paper deals with beach quality assessment. At first, the author presents the state of the art through a conceptual and a methodological approach. Then, she applies the methodological framework she has elaborated to the beaches of the British Virgin Islands. On the basis of the results of the assessment, she discusses the environmental impacts of tourism in small tropical island
