This paper presents French historical sources and references about Tobago collected in the Libraries and Archives of Martinique and the record of two archaeological missions sent from Martinique to Tobago in the 1990’s. French contributions to the history of Tobago, published or not, gives light on the French speaking protestant Walloons who settled in the island during the 17th century. In addition the author shows the links between Dutch and French Huguenot families in the West Indies in spite of the French State
