The goal of this study is to define the semantics attached to the notional and “temporal” uses of the preposition over from a viewpoint based on the assumption that language bears some relation to the external world. Perception is then shown to have a dominating role, as is the case when over is used in spatial contexts, and to correspond to aspectual factors linguistically
