The traditional distrust of monotheism towards images by fear of idolatry did not prevent the development of cinema in Jewish or Muslim societies at the beginning of the 20th century. Despite some attempts, an Islamic religious cinema never emerged in the predominantly Muslim world since the representation of Coranic figures remains the ultimate taboo. Jewish communities in Europe and the United States produced many Yiddish films between 1910 and 1950. The aesthetic notion of Muslim or Jewish film, explored in this article, appears to be unsufficient to define these complex works
