We live in an age where new methods of procreation have led us to rethink what we define as biological kinship. Evolving from and reacting to these new problems, kinship studies also implies a redefinition of the very concept of kinship, above all, the correlation between it and biology. This paper proposes to use the notions of practical and daily kinship to rethink medieval spiritual kinship. We will do so with a short historiography of anthropological history of kinship and of the postmodernist critiques against traditional kinship. In particular, we will focus on a painting by Matteo di Pacino that exemplifies this approach to medieval kinship
