This article aims to highlight the concrete modalities through which members of elite Malian families have access to student international migration. The article stresses how this access requires different kinds of resources that are all connected to social networks. One consists of the spatial dispersion of those families, providing foreign anchor points which facilitate geographic mobility. Another is the strong social capital possessed by those Malian bourgeois families, with robust family ties with the ruling strata, allowing them to gain access to the significant economic resources needed to support foreign tuition fees
