The impact of effective smoking cessation treatment on reducing premature morbidity and mortality will be presented along with review of the social and real costs of continued tobacco use particularly in lower and middle income countries. The role of smoking cessation treatment in Comprehensive tobacco control will be discussed. A call for investment in smoking cessation capacity building as well as the use of effective, culturally appropriate and affordable smoking cessation treatment will be made
