Libraries and citizen empowerment

The twenty-first century libraries are adapting their roles and needs to the new demands of the society in which we live. The role of libraries is expanding to remain relevant institutions in a new ecosystem is constantly changing. The information society offers great possibilities to individuals, but also increases the multiple gaps between citizens and countries. The library in this context is one of the most important strategic resources to mitigate these difficulties and encourage individuals and communities to participate fully in the possibilities offered by the so-called information technologies. Thus libraries are drawing up plans and spaces to empower their communities with innovative services that have been adapted gradually to the new situation. In line with this the role of the librarian involves expanding its capabilities as one of the key resources of the library of the future.
