From the problematic of the method to method as a problem: philosophical hermeneutics and the issue of understanding

This article intends to offer a synthetic presentation of part of the long historical and philosophical narrative developed in Truth and Method, where Gadamer refers to the appearance of the ideal of method within the history of classic hermeneutics. The aim pursued here is to situate the incompatibility that exists, according to Gadamer, between, on one side, the ideal of method for approaching historical objects and, on the other side, the fact that this very ideal of method be originally rooted in the Romantic model of the interaction among individuals belonging to one and the same historical experience
